Quooker · kitchen sinks & taps
Always have instant 100°C boiling water. And filtered, chilled, still and sparkling, with the Quooker CUBE.
Every Quooker tap, tank and accessory — and the sink to fit it — supplied from Nenagh.
How a Quooker works
Quooker is the world's first true 100°C boiling-water tap, invented by Dutch physicist Henri Peteri in 1970. Every system is a tap on the work surface and a vacuum-insulated tank in the cupboard below, storing water under pressure at 108°C on just 10 W — the equivalent of two LEDs. Light Hardware Supplies stocks the full Quooker range in Ireland, with sinks from Rodi, Franke, Nero and RAK Ceramics, from our trade counter in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, and delivers nationwide.

So many uses
From your boiled egg first thing in the morning to your cup of lavender tea last thing at night.
Our taps
Eight tap shapes in up to eight finishes. All give instant 100°C boiling water plus hot and cold as standard — and add the CUBE for filtered, chilled, still and sparkling.

Which Quooker tank is for you?
No hot-water supply, or more than six metres from boiler to tap? Choose the COMBI. Hot water arrives quickly? The PRO3 is perfect. Long wait for hot water? The COMBI+ gives you unlimited hot water too.
*Average values. **PRO3 tanks only supply boiling water; the EU has no energy label for boiling-water tanks. COMBI+ uses an external heating source and is as efficient as the COMBI.

For filtered, chilled, still and sparkling too

Read the guide
Correct sink and tap specification improves functionality, simplifies maintenance, and enhances the overall quality of a kitchen installation. This guide covers bowl configurations, installation methods, material comparisons, and tap selection criteria to support informed product specification.
How to Choose
Six specification criteria to evaluate before finalising sink selection.
01
Compact kitchen layouts typically accommodate single bowl sinks, while larger installations can specify double bowl or Belfast configurations without compromising adjacent worktop zones.
02
Sink cabinet interior width is the primary constraint. A 500mm cabinet is the minimum for most single bowl sinks; double bowl configurations typically require 800mm or wider cabinets.
03
Where large cookware and baking trays are in regular use, a deep single bowl (200mm+) provides maximum usable capacity. Double bowl configurations separate washing and rinsing workflows.
04
High-usage installations commonly specify double bowl sinks paired with pull-out spray taps, enabling simultaneous washing and rinsing with improved workflow efficiency.
05
Maintain adequate preparation zones either side of the sink cutout. An oversized sink in a limited worktop area reduces usable prep space — balance bowl capacity against available surface area.
06
Inset sinks offer the most cost-effective specification. Undermount installations command a premium but deliver a seamless, flush worktop junction. Mixer taps provide the best value-to-functionality ratio.

Bowl configuration options and their specification advantages for different installation types.

Expert Advice
For most residential kitchen specifications, 304-grade stainless steel sinks paired with quality ceramic-disc mixer taps offer the best balance of durability, functionality, and value. Contemporary installations commonly specify undermount sink configurations for a seamless worktop junction, while high-usage installations benefit from double bowl configurations paired with pull-out spray taps for improved workflow efficiency.
Comparison
| Feature | Single Bowl | Double Bowl |
|---|---|---|
| Large cookware handling | Full bowl access — accommodates commercial-grade pots and baking trays | Each bowl is smaller, restricting oversized items |
| Food preparation | Single workspace — limited for simultaneous tasks | Two separate zones for washing and preparation concurrently |
| Cleaning convenience | Single bowl surface — straightforward maintenance | Two bowls to maintain, though task separation improves hygiene |
| Space efficiency | Suitable for compact installations and minimum cabinet widths | Requires 800mm+ cabinet and additional worktop allocation |
| High-usage suitability | Can be restrictive for high-throughput installations | Well-suited — separate bowls for concurrent washing and rinsing |
Combinations
Recommended sink and tap specifications for common installation types.
Maximises limited worktop area while maintaining full functionality within minimum cabinet dimensions.
Separate washing and rinsing zones with directed spray functionality for improved workflow efficiency.
Seamless flush worktop junction with minimalist tap styling — requires solid surface worktop material.
Compatible with existing laminate worktops — straightforward installation with versatile tap functionality.
Avoid These
Cabinet interior width is the primary constraint. A sink that exceeds the cabinet dimension cannot be installed without modifying the carcase — verify interior measurements before specification.
Spout height must accommodate the tallest vessel used in the installation. Measure from the spout outlet to the sink base to confirm adequate clearance for filling large pots.
A visually appealing sink with inadequate bowl depth or capacity compromises daily functionality. Specification should prioritise usage profile over appearance.
Deep bowls reduce available cabinet volume below. Where under-sink storage for waste systems or plumbing access is required, factor bowl depth into cabinet specification.
The sink should be positioned between refrigeration and cooking zones to maintain an efficient work triangle. Finalise layout before specifying sink dimensions.
FAQs
For most residential installations, a 304-grade stainless steel single bowl inset sink with a minimum bowl depth of 200mm is the most commonly specified option. It accommodates large cookware, is compatible with all worktop materials, and offers straightforward maintenance. Where cabinet width permits, a double bowl configuration adds workflow flexibility for high-usage installations.
Specify a single bowl sink where large cookware is in regular use, where cabinet width is limited, or where maximum bowl capacity is the priority. Specify a double bowl sink where concurrent washing and rinsing is required, or for high-throughput installations. Double bowl configurations require a minimum 800mm cabinet and additional worktop allocation.
An inset sink is installed by dropping into a worktop cutout, resting on the surface with a visible rim. It is compatible with all worktop materials including laminate and is straightforward to install. An undermount sink is mounted beneath the worktop, creating a flush junction with no visible rim. Undermount installations require solid surface worktop materials (granite, quartz, solid surface, or compact laminate) and involve additional installation complexity and cost.
Pull-out spray taps are commonly specified for high-usage installations and where directed water flow is required — rinsing cookware, cleaning bowl surfaces, and filling vessels that exceed fixed spout clearance. They are a higher specification than standard mixer taps but offer significantly improved functionality. Specify taps with ceramic cartridges and verify minimum operating pressure requirements before selection.
Cabinet interior width is the primary constraint. A 500mm cabinet accommodates most single bowl sinks; double bowl configurations typically require 800mm or wider. Bowl depth should be a minimum of 200mm where large cookware is in use. Verify that the sink specification leaves adequate worktop preparation zones on either side of the cutout.
304-grade stainless steel offers the best durability-to-maintenance ratio — it is resistant to staining, thermal shock, and impact. Composite granite provides excellent thermal and scratch resistance with a premium appearance. Ceramic offers a traditional aesthetic but is more susceptible to chipping. Undermount installations simplify worktop-edge hygiene by eliminating the rim junction where debris accumulates.
A pull-out spray mixer tap is commonly specified for high-usage installations. The retractable spray head enables directed water flow for efficient rinsing and bowl cleaning. Pair with a double bowl sink for concurrent washing and rinsing workflows. Specify taps with ceramic disc cartridges for longevity and verify minimum water pressure requirements against the installation's supply pressure.
No. Undermount sinks require a solid, structurally rigid worktop material — granite, quartz, solid surface, or compact laminate. Standard laminate worktops are not suitable for undermount installation because the exposed chipboard core at the cutout edge is vulnerable to moisture ingress and swelling. For laminate worktops, specify an inset sink installation.
